Johmaalya Adelekan, Founder & Head Chef, Posh Eats Catering

1. What inspired you to start Posh Eats Catering?

Posh Eats Catering was born out of my passion for food and a love of cooking. I am an actor by trade and I have had the great privilege of performing on Broadway, Off-Broadway and at regional theaters across North America. But, I am a foodie at heart. Whether it’s trying new foods or cooking for family, friends or cast mates, sharing a meal with others has always been a joy for me. After decades of hosting parties, catering events for friends and organizations that I belonged to, I thought it was finally time to make my passion official. I have always wanted to have a catering business or small restaurant, but the timing never seemed right. Though I had a bit of nerves, I launched Posh Eats Catering in the fall of 2024 and I am thrilled at where we are today and excited for what’s next.

Our motto, Good Food Made With Love, is what guides everything I do.

Our food tastes indulgent, luxurious and very Posh without the guilt because it is freshly prepared with clean ingredients.

2. How would you describe your cooking style, and what makes your food unique?

Eclectic. My cooking influences come from many different styles and cuisines. No matter if it's a fancy upscale dish or down-home comfort food, I believe in using fresh, whole ingredients to create meals packed with flavor. Our motto, Good Food Made With Love, is what guides everything I do. Our food tastes indulgent, luxurious and very Posh without the guilt because it is freshly prepared with clean ingredients.

3. What types of events or clients do you love cooking for most?

We have a wide variety of clients, from weekly meal prep, to larger scale full catering events. Honestly, I enjoy cooking for all of them. What I love the most is the feeling I get when a client sees the food for the first time and is thrilled or when they text me to say their guest really enjoyed the food and their event was a success. There is no better feeling than to know that the food I prepared helped to elevate their special occasion.

4. Can you share a moment when you realized this could be more than just a passion?

Funny story, I was asked to cater a baby shower for one of my closest friends. It was a very elevated event where I catered all the sides and desserts. She wanted mini sized things so it was a challenging and tedious job. She is a brilliant PhD and entrepreneur so naturally many of her guests were too. The event was a huge success and everyone enjoyed the food and kept asking me about my business and how they could book me. Trouble was, I had no business and was just doing this for my friend. At the end of the event several of her friends literally staged an intervention for me. They peppered me with questions about my talent, passions and why I was not doing this professionally! They were all successful business women in their own right and took the time to invest in me, encourage me and yes scold me a bit, but it was exactly what I needed. This was the moment that I realized I could no longer just wish for a catering business, I had to start my catering business and that is what I did.

5. What can someone expect when they book Posh Eats for their event or meals?

Anyone who books Posh Eats can expect delicious food, personal attention to detail and a customized menu just for them. While I have a menu selection to give people an idea of what we do, 90% of our business comes from a menu that is thoughtfully curated with each client's wishes and dietary needs in mind. I also strive to make food that is visually beautiful. We eat with our eyes, so using colorful ingredients and inspired presentations is a detail that Posh Eats uses to infuse love into all of our creations.

6. What does being part of Rising Kitchens mean to you?

I am so excited to be a part of Rising Kitchens! I am excited to be a part of a group of like-minded food business owners who are willing and able to share their wealth of knowledge and expertise. It means a lot to know that I have a group of people who not only believe in me and what I’m doing, but who can also relate and appreciate the challenges that can sometimes come with owning a food business. I also like the collaborative aspect of Rising Kitchens. The fact that a client can curate a wonderful event using multiple Rising Kitchens Chefs is a huge plus and helps expose Posh Eats to more potential clients.
